Hawa Imani Children's Home
Imani Children's Home was founded in the year 2003 by Pastor Anne Kahiga.
God moved her heart to give these children a hope to live.
It was started with 6 children but has now enlarged to 36 children who reside at the
Home. Out of the 36 children, 3 are in secondary school, 24 in Primary school and 9
are in a pre-unit. The Home also caters for other children in the community who
frequently visit for food and other support needs but go back to their homes at night.
This home specifically takes care of orphans but it also has a small percentage of
other destitute children who are not orphans but have no place to call a home and their
parents or guardians cannot be able to look after them for various reasons.
The home provides basic needs for the children i.e. food, clothing, shelter as well as
catering for their educational and health needs. Some of the kids are H.I.V positive and
the local government is currently supporting us with their medication for free.
Our aim is to bring these children up to become responsible adults and future leaders,
to cater for their needs until they are independent enough to move on with their lives.
Accommodation
Initially the Home was started in a rented accommodation but we have recently
relocated in our own premises that well wishers and partners supported us to build
temporarily. We really appreciate those who supported us.
Education
24 of our kids goes to local primary school, 3 to secondary school and 9 to a pre-unit
school. They are all in day schools and returns Home in the evening but in the future we
are hoping to send some kids to boarding secondary schools subject to availability of
funds from supporters.
